Using Chairwork and Parts Work to Combat the Psychological Impact of Oppression
Chairwork Psychotherapy is an experiential therapeutic modality uniquely suited to addressing the impact of trauma, mistreatment, and inner turmoil.
Chairwork, with its roots in Psychodrama and Gestalt Therapy, is undergoing a world-wide renaissance and can be a powerful tool to address the uniquely challenging and painful psychological impacts caused by oppression, discrimination, and marginalization.

Oppression-based traumatization may individually manifest as one or more of the Five Core Problems of Oppression: socially-induced traumatization, internalized oppression, identity conflict or confusion, connection to voice, and oppression-rooted coping. Using the Four Dialogues, clinicians may work with these issues to support self-esteem development, address despair, hold harmful forces accountable, and foster internal liberation.
Using foundational Chairwork dialogue structures, this workshop will explore Parts Work/Giving Voice to address identity conflict and confusion, Confrontational Dialogues to challenge harmful and oppressive forces or people, and Trauma-Centered Storytelling to address painful or traumatic memories of mistreatment and injustice.
In addition to a brief lecture, the workshop will include live, unrehearsed clinical demonstrations and group discussion.
Participants will gain applicable and effective experiential techniques to use with any patient dealing with the pain and suffering of oppression and marginalization.
This workshop welcomes all psychotherapists, pre-licensed therapists, clinical interns, and grad students.
Due to the sensitive content that may emerge during the live demonstrations, webinar recordings will not be available. Less...
